Graduate Independent Study

This course is intended for graduate students to learn tools and techniques of research in their fields of interest from particular faculty members. In order to enroll in the course, the student needs to work out a plan of study with a faculty member who is willing to assume responsibility of supervising the course. The faculty member needs to submit (1) a course title, (2) a short course description, (3) weekly meeting schedules, (4) the assessment procedure, and (5) the number of credits the student will receive if he/she successfully completes the course. This information needs to be given to the DGS and DGSA in a timely manner so that the course can be scheduled. The DGSA will then coordinate with the student and the faculty member to create a course numbered PHY790-XX. This course normally does not satisfy the graduate elective requirements for PhD students, unless the DGS approves it.
