The experimental condensed matter groups at Duke University are seeking an outstanding scientist to fill the newly created Fritz London Endowed Post-doctoral Research Fellowship. The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics, broadly defined, and to develop an original experimental research program that leverages the strengths of the existing groups in the areas of: granular materials; reduced-dimension fluid flow; electron transport in nanoscale systems including graphene, carbon nanotubes, superconducting wires, and superlattices; fractional charge and statistics associated with the topological order of the quantum Hall states; DNA-based self-assembly of nanostructures; biophysics; laser interactions with ultracold matter, metamaterials, and quantum information science. In addition to a competitive stipend, the holder of the Fritz London Post-doctoral Fellowship will have access to a research account for travel to scientific meetings and other small research-related expenses. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable upon mutual consent for up to a total of three years. The preferred start date of the appointment is not later than Summer 2013.
